In my recent article about instant gratification, I talked about my weight gain since opening the clinic and set myself a goal to be under 70kg by 18 July. Well I thought it was time for an update … I’m pleased to say (if I must say so myself!) my skin looks amazing! However …. The past couple of months has been an absolute roller coaster and I have found it challenging establishing routine and discipline and in fact when I returned from holidays at the end of July I actually weighed 78kg!!! It’s not all bad news though! My dear friend Emily Rovere is helping me establish good eating habits again and by participating in her Body Transformation Challenge I was able to lose 4kg over the past four weeks and am now down to 73.7kg and already feel much lighter and brighter! And I have set myself a new…

Recently I was introduced to Shona Kim. Shona is a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse who works at Monash Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), one of the four largest in Victoria that provides exceptional care and treatment for sick and premature babies. I asked Shona what is was like to work in NICU. To my disbelief she said she nearly gave it up. I was surprised at this as I thought it would be very rewarding caring for and tending to little babies needs and watching them grow and become healthy, eventually being released from hospital. Shona helped me understand, as with all specialist areas of nursing, there are pros and cons. Obviously one of the pros (which is the only one I was thinking of!) is that you can play a part in saving the lives of babies, which is very rewarding. However Shona highlighted that it is a stressful…

Recently on my holiday in Lombok I learned of an amazing story of Paying it Forward. Pictured here with me is Sonya. Sonya was born and raised in Kuta, Lombok. Her family were unable to afford to send her to school, so at 8 years old she started selling pineapples on the beach. At 15 years she started selling sarongs and did this for the next 12 years. Sonya was married at 13 and had her first child when she was 14. She now has eight children and is 34 years old. In 2010 she met Jessica, a then 19 year old on holiday from England. Jessica lent her money to start her own restaurant best known as …. well … Sonya’s! Sonya’s sells fresh fish and seafood off the boat that day and it is cooked in front of the restaurant on the BBQ. Sonya has repaid the loan…

Recently I was asked to do a segment on Money Matters for a specialist series on Franchising. Watch the video and see the reasons why I personally chose to develop a franchise partnership with Unique Laser. As most of us know, 1 April is an annual celebration commemorated by practical jokes and hoaxes. So you would forgive me for thinking that centre management was playing a practical joke when I received a call on that day at 5.10pm telling me that a car had driven into my clinic. But alas, it was no joke as I was reminded that the practical jokes and hoaxes cease at midday after which it is no longer acceptable to play pranks! When I arrived at the clinic it was quiet surreal. Flashing lights, police, Melbourne Fire Brigade, Ambulance and the whole area cordoned off. The question on everyone’s lips was and remains, how did this happen? To this day I still don’t know but accidents happen and I’ve always been a big believer in three sayings – out of every negative comes a positive, every cloud always has a silver…
